A Bay Area native, Paul began umpiring when (then Granada LL UIC)Dave Mantach asked him to umpire when Paul’s son’s team didn’t have one for a game – a common story. He likes to joke about shin guards with shorts being a great look! Deciding to be the team’s umpire led to being “bit by the bug,” attending the West Region “week-long” umpire training clinic in San Bernardino for the first time, and eventually taking over the UIC role from Dave. After five years of being UIC and putting four kids through Granada (two becoming umpires), he just never left!
